People gobble this stuff up.
Why?
Sure, there is a distraction element to it: you can momentarily forget your own problems when you watch a horror movie about a girl trapped in a house fleeing a killer.
But there’s much more to it than that.
You can watch a stand-up comedian joking about his in-laws and feel understood.
If you’re frustrated with your business, you can read Shoe Dog and find comfort that Phil Night had to overcome great hardship and countless setbacks while building the Nike empire.
Or you can watch Rocky then get inspired to do a thousand pull-ups or run some stairs.
Stories can do far better than create an entertaining distraction: they can guide us, encourage us, give us hope, and give us focus.
And the cool thing is, you can use your own indwelt creative powers to build your own story.
